EUFAULA: Eufaula Police have arrested one of their own.

It has been confirmed that Eufaula Police Lieutenant Steve Hanners has been arrested for Theft of Property in the First Degree, Hanners has been booked into jail and made a property bond.

The theft allegations are from issues from within the Eufaula Police Department and possibly money that is missing from within the department.

Sources say Hanners was in narcotics and the money allegations are in regards to that.

Eufaula Police said the investigation is ongoing and will not release many details.

Barbour County TOPS Organization (The Ordinary People's Society) Rachael Smith made allegations to the Eufaula City Council on June 15, 2009 in regards to Lt. Steve Hanners. Her allegations accused Hanners of using his power against people and being abusive, controlling and untruthful. Her allegations were to the Eufaula Police Chief, Mayor of Eufaula, District Attorney Ben Reeves and Circuit Judge Bert Smithhart. Smith said that a petition she circulated contained over three hundred signatures.

From the complaint the Mayor instructed the Police Chief to conduct an investigation. Smith said they have never given her a final report of the investigation. Smith said she has asked several times for a report.

TOPS Smith said threre is judicial bias when it comes to charging citizens of color.

We at The Ordinary People Society ( T.O.P.S.) and the Prodigal Child Project thank God for the News of what's going on in Washington and two of the three Judges stating that ex-felons should vote out of Prison.
Being that we were the first ones in the country to win a Lawsuit in Alabama to gain the Voting Rights for those Incarcerated, by advocacy and community organizing with none to little funding.
We are very happy to see this coming into fruition.
This truly shows that people power and us coming together as a movement still works.
This should inspire us all to not give up hope and continue to press on with our work.
This is what happens when we as people come together
We would like to thank Drug Policy Alliance ( Gabriel Sayegh ), Equal Justice Initiative ( Bryan Stevenson ), Dr. Yvonne Kennedy ( REP.) Sen. Bobby Singleton ( Sen.) and Ryan Haygood ( Lawyer ) for listening to us and helping us when no one else did in order to accomplish this task right before the Presidential Election causing over 2500 out of jails and prisons throughout the state of Alabama to vote, and yes it did have a great impact on the election of Pres. Obama. go to www.wearetops.org archives for stories.
We must write our legislatures and those in Washington now in order to bring this to pass.
With that said we are coming out with a pamphlet on how we did it in Alabama.
This will help other organizers in many ways.
Let's DO EVERYTHING we can to bring this to pass, Please help!!!

SOMEBODY SAY RESTORE!!!!
I am concerned by the rising issues of police violence towards foreign minorities. We need the right measure to set in place to help those people all around the globe.

It's okay to have money and your life is so called perfect but how can you sleep at night if you don't help others that are down. I saw a lady on the side of the street today and she was crying. She was obviously on drugs and looked really bad. Her foot had a brace on it. I felt so bad but I couldn't stop because its so much violence in this world that you will never know. I'm the type of person that will give my last to a homeless person and I've always been like that. So with that said we have to quit turning up our nose up at others and HELP!! WE ARE ALL GOD'S CHILDREN!
